Buyer Guide
Since 2017, a developer selling a plotted layout above a certain size must register it with the Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority before advertising or selling a single plot. The registration number must appear on every advertisement, brochure and website.
What registration gives you
- The promoter's identity and past record are on file with the authority
- The approved plans and the declared completion date are on record
- You get a place to complain that is not the developer's own office
How to check it yourself
- Go to the Karnataka RERA website and open the registered projects search
- Search by the project name, the promoter name, or the registration number on the brochure
- Check that the project name, survey numbers and promoter match what you were told
- Check the validity date. A registration that has lapsed is a question worth asking
Also check the agent
The person selling you the plot should be registered too. Agents who facilitate sales in a registered project need their own RERA agent registration.
